Silver Slugger Award

The Silver Slugger Award is an award in the American Baseball -Profiliga Major League Baseball . It has been awarded annually since 1980 to the most offensively strong baseball players, the best " sluggers ". The trophy is a stylized three foot long silver baseball bat from Hillerich & Bradsby , the maker of the Louisville Slugger baseball bats.
Election mode
All trainers and managers of the MLB are entitled to vote. Offensive statistics such as home runs , batting average , on-base percentage or slugging percentage are relevant . No coach or manager can choose a player from his own club. A complete baseball team is elected each year in both the National League and the American League (pitcher / designated hitter , catcher, first base, second base, third base, shortstop, three outfielders), so that a total of 18 Silver Slugger Awards are given .
There are two particularities to note. First of all, it is irrelevant for the outfielders which exact field position (right field, center field, left field) they play. For example, six rightfielders could all win the Silver Slugger Awards. Secondly, there is the so-called designated hitter in the American League, who is always substituted for the pitcher on the offensive, so the Silver Slugger Award is not given to the thrower with the most offensive performance, but to the designated hitter with the most offensive performance.
Record holder
Barry Bonds won twelve Silver Slugger Awards and is currently the sole record holder. Mike Piazza and Alex Rodríguez each won ten silver baseball bats, followed by Barry Larkin with nine.
