Mitchell Lyn "Mitch" Garver (born January 15, 1991 in Albuquerque , New Mexico ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) on the position of catcher . In 2019 he won the Silver Slugger Award .

Career

Garver attended La Cueva High School in Albuquerque and played college baseball at the University of New Mexico . It was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round of the 2013 MLB Draft . Garver first played in the Minnesota Twins' farm teams before making his MLB debut for the Twins against the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 19, 2017 at the age of 26 . In the game, Garver had a strikeout . The Twins won the game 5-0. He ran 22 more times for the Twins and had a batting average of .193 and three Run Batted In (RBI) by the end of the season . Garver hit his first home run in the MLB on April 5, 2018 and became a regular catcher from May of the same year.

On May 14, 2019 game against the Los Angeles Angels Garver suffered while trying Shohei Ohtani at the Home Plate from making a sprain of the left ankle and was subsequently set for ten days on the injury list. Tag play at home plate enabled the Twins to keep their 4 to 3 lead. Despite injury, Garver played 93 times for the Twins in the 2019 season and had 31 home runs and 67 RBI in 311 at-bats . For this achievement he was awarded the Silver Slugger Award .
