Magglio José Ordóñez (born January 28, 1974 in Caracas , Venezuela ) is a Venezuelan baseball player in Major League Baseball . He played for the Chicago White Sox (1997-2004) and since 2005 for the Detroit Tigers .
Life
Ordóñez spent the first eight years of his career with the Chicago White Sox. On February 7, 2005, he signed a five-year, $ 85 million contract in Detroit. In total, Ordóñez was invited to six All-Star Games (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007).
On October 14, 2006, a three-run walk-off home run by Ordonez led to the "sweep" in the American League Championship Series over the Oakland Athletics . With the win, the Detroit Tigers moved into the World Series for the first time since 1984 .
