David Christopher Justice (born April 14, 1966 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is a retired American baseball player on the position of outfielders and designated hitters . The left-hander was in Major League Baseball for the Atlanta Braves (1989-1996), the Cleveland Indians (1997-2000), the New York Yankees (2000-2001) and the Oakland Athletics (2002).
Career
Atlanta Braves
Justice made his debut for the Atlanta Braves in 1989 at the age of 23 . With the Braves he won the 1995 World Series , in which he scored the only point in the game with a home run in the decisive 6th game. After he sustained a shoulder injury in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in May 1996 that ended his season, he was given up to the Cleveland Indians before the 1997 season .
Cleveland Indians
With the Indians, Justice was able to reach the 1997 World Series , but they were lost 3: 4 to the Florida Marlins .
New York Yankees
On June 28, 2000, Justice was traded to the Yankees. After winning the American League Championship Series over the Seattle Mariners , where he was elected MVP, the team also won the 2000 World Series against the New York Mets .
Oakland Athletics
The Yankees traded Justice to the Mets at the end of 2001, from where he was handed over to the Oakland Athletics just a week later. There he was named AL Player of the Week in the first week of the 2002 season and was able to reach the play-offs again before ending his career.
Private life
David Justice was married to actress Halle Berry from 1992 to 1997 . The marriage ended in dispute, with Berry obtaining a ban on contact against Justice.
He has been married to Rebecca Villalobos for the second time since 2001. The couple has three children.
