The 1997 World Series was the 93rd edition of the Major League Baseball final between the American League champion , the Cleveland Indians , and the Florida Marlins , the National League champion . The Marlins, founded in 1993, entered the World Series for the first time in their short history and were able to win their first title. The decision was extremely tight: In the last game, the Marlins did not equalize until the last regular inning, and the decisive walk-off run was then made in the second extra inning.
