The 2002 World Series was the 98th edition of the Major League Baseball finals . The series is one of the most memorable in baseball history. For the first time, two wildcard teams made it into the World Series. The series started on October 19, 2002 and ended on October 27, 2002. It faced the champions of the American League , the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim , and the champions of the National League , the San Francisco Giants . The Anaheim Angels won the "Best of Seven" series with a 4-3 win. The Angels won Games 2, 3, 6 and 7, the Giants won Games 1, 4 and 5 for themselves.
For the victorious Angels, who had played in the Major League since 1961, it was their first ever participation in a World Series. The Giants had won their last World Series in 1954 (back then as the New York Giants). Since moving to San Francisco in 1957 managed the Giants only twice in the World Series, but lost both the World Series in 1962 and the 1989 World Series .
