The 1984 World Series was the 81st edition of the Major League Baseball finals . The champions of the American League , the Detroit Tigers , and the champion of the National League , the San Diego Padres , faced each other. The best-of-seven series started on October 9th and ended on October 14th, 1984. The winners after five games were the Detroit Tigers 4-1, who were able to win their fourth and so far last World Series .
As MVP of the series Detroit was shortstop Alan Trammell excellent.
