The 1967 World Series was the 64th edition of the Major League Baseball finals . The champions of the American League , the Boston Red Sox , and the champion of the National League , the St. Louis Cardinals , faced each other. The best-of-seven series started on October 4th and ended on October 12th, 1967. Winner after seven games were the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3, who could win their eighth World Series .
As the MVP of the series for the second time since 1964 St. Louis pitcher Bob Gibson was awarded.

Pitcher Bob Gibson started in Game 1 for the Cardinals, his opponent was the 21-year-old José Santiago from Puerto Rico . In the third inning Lou Brock managed the first run of the World Series, which brought the Cardinals 1-0 in front. The Red Sox equalized immediately after Santiago hit a home run . Subsequently, Gibson allowed next to nothing and could until the end of the game without another earned run . The decisive run in the seventh inning to make it 2-1 for the Cardinals was again Lou Brock.

In game 2, Boston's star pitcher Jim Lonborg was used for the first time in the series , who led the American League with 22 wins in the regular season . Lonborg played an almost perfect game and only allowed one hit and one walk . Offensively, Carl Yastrzemski stood out in the Red Sox , with a single home run in the fourth inning and a three run home run in the seventh inning, who alone contributed four RBI to the ultimately clear 5-0 victory.

After a day off, Game 3 was the first of the series in St. Louis. The Cardinals came into play after a poor offensive performance in Game 2, scored in the first two innings and quickly went 3-0 in front. In the sixth inning, the Red Sox were able to shorten to 1: 3, in the same period of play the Cardinals were able to increase again to 4: 1. With a home run by Reggie Smith in the seventh inning, the Red Sox came up again on two runs to the Cardinals. The end of the game was again set by the Cardinals, who made the final score 5: 2 in the eighth inning.

Game 4 was the second duel between the pitcher Bob Gibson and José Santiago. The Cardinals started furious and led 4-0 after the first inning. For Santiago, the game was over after two thirds of the first inning. In the third leg of the game, the Cardinals increased it to 6-0 with two more runs, which was the end of the game. The Cardinals had the chance to win the World Series in game 5 in front of their home crowd.

Jim Lonborg starts as the Red Sox pitcher for the second time in the possibly decisive Game 5. At the Cardinals, Steve "Lefty" Carlton was on the mound for the first time in the series . In a relatively uneventful game, the Red Sox took the lead 1-0 after an error by St. Louis third baseman Mike Shannon . In the final section, the Red Sox were able to extend their lead to 3: 0 and, since the Cardinals only got one run, were able to shorten the series to 2: 3 wins.

The Red Sox started with rookie pitcher Gary Waslewski, who was only used in twelve games during the regular season. Opposite him was Dick Hughes. The Red Sox went in the second inning with a home run over the so-called "green monster" , the wall behind the left outfield in Fenway Park, by Rico Petrocelli 1-0 in front. In the third inning, the Cardinals turned the game around with two runs before the Red Sox reclaimed the lead with three more runs in the fourth inning. In the seventh inning, the Cardinals equalized with two runs for the time being, the hosts followed up with four runs and produced the final score of 8: 4. The winner of the World Series therefore had to be determined in a decisive seventh game.

In the decisive game 7, the two star pitchers Bob Gibson and Jim Lonborg met for the first time. In the third inning, Lonborg got into trouble, allowed three hits from the Cardinals and ultimately caused two runs from a wild pitch . In the fifth inning, the Cardinals increased to 4-0 thanks to a Gibson home run and two Stolen Bases from Lou Brock . The Red Sox shortened to 1: 4, but the Cardinals followed up with a three run home run by Julián Javier in the sixth inning and thus took a 7: 1 lead. Boston's second run of the game in the eighth inning no longer mattered. Thanks to the 7-2 success, the Cardinals won their eighth World Series to date.
