Anthony Keith "Tony" Gwynn, Sr. (born May 9, 1960 in Los Angeles , California - † June 16, 2014 in Poway , California) was an American baseball player with the San Diego Padres . Since he has spent his entire career in San Diego and still holds some team records to this day, he is nicknamed Mr. Padre. After his playing career, he coached the San Diego State University baseball team .

Gwynn died in June 2014 of complications from salivary gland cancer .
