The Silberkarklamm , also known as Silberkargraben , is a gorge on the southern roof of the Dachstein massif in Ennstal , Styria . It is located near Rössing in the municipality of Ramsau am Dachstein . It is designated as a natural monument Torbachfall .

Location and landscape

The Silberkarklamm is a narrow part of the Silberkarbach (Torbach) , which comes from the Miesbergen and flows into the Ramsaubach near Rössing . The gorge begins above Rössing at around 1000  m above sea level. A. , and extends into the Silberkar at about 1125  m above sea level. A. Not only does the Silberkarbach receive rainwater or meltwater from the Silberkar, but also underground that of the Silberkarsee (Hölltalsee) and its catchment area, which means that the stream is irregularly water-bearing, sometimes dry or at other times it is extremely watery.

The gorge has two waterfalls, the approximately 10 m high Torbachfall in the gorge, and the 70 m high Schleierfall falling from the right into the gorge .

The gorge is geologically significant, upstream of the stream, a sequence of Gutenstein dolomite , stone alpine limestone , Hallstatt limestone and Wetterstein limestone can be traced, which shows the sedimentation process of the limestone Alps in the Triassic period .

Conservation and development

The Silberkarklamm was designated as a natural monument Torbachfall in 1968 ( NDM.788 , nature conservation book: St-GB-020 / Ramsau am Dachstein, KG Ramsau and Rössing).
