Anthony Vincent Rizzo (born August 8, 1989 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) is an American professional baseball player in Major League Baseball . He made his debut on June 9, 2011 with the San Diego Padres . Since 2012 he has played in the league organization of the Chicago Cubs . Because he is of Italian descent and has dual citizenship, he decided to play for the Italian national baseball team in 2013 in order to take part in the United States baseball championship before the upcoming 2013 MLB season .

In May 2008, Rizzo was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma .
