In the 19th century the lodge had up to 170 members. With the income obtained from membership fees, it primarily promoted social causes, including in favor of the Altenburg high school , the community school, the boys 'and girls' school and the child custody facility. Over 30 foundations and numerous non-profit associations were established in the lodge house.

In 1935 the lodge was dissolved by the National Socialists. During the GDR era , the property was owned by the city of Altenburg and, after the fall of the Wall, belonged to the technical college for social education.

The Grand Lodge of the Old Free and Accepted Masons of Germany , based in Berlin, has been the owner of the house since 1992 . She had the house renovated as a modern event venue and since 1999 she has also tried to re-establish the Altenburg Freemason tradition. Today the house is managed by Logenhaus Altenburg GmbH in Starkenberg .

architecture

The building is a single-storey hall building with nine window axes, arranged parallel to the street, and provided with a large hipped roof. The entrance is preceded by a two-storey central projection with four Tuscan half-columns, entablature and gable . In the pediment there is a relief with a figure of the seated Archimedes and an inscription with the last words ascribed to him: "NOLI TURBARE CIRCULOS" .
