The History and Antiquity Research Society of the Osterland ( GAGO ) is a history association that deals with historical questions of the Osterland , a historical landscape in today's Thuringia , Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt .

The association was founded in Altenburg (Thuringia) in 1838 by Karl Back , among others , and initially existed until 1945. On March 21, 1990, the company's work was resumed. Wolfgang Enke, teacher at the traditional Altenburger Friedrichsgymnasium , was chairman of the society for many years and made a significant contribution to its reactivation in the post reunification period. Today's chairman of the History and Antiquity Research Society of the Osterlandes zu Altenburg e. V. is Gustav Wolf.

The establishment of collections and the preservation and maintenance of architectural and art monuments were among the goals of the association. The company had an extensive library , the old holdings of which are in the Thuringian State Archives in Altenburg . Her scientific work was published in the "Mitteilungen der Geschichts- und Altertumsforschende Gesellschaft des Osterlandes". The Altenburg history and house calendar is also published by the company.
