Carl Demonte Crawford (born August 5, 1981 in Houston , Texas ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball . Crawford plays the position of left fielder and has been with the Tampa Bay Rays since the beginning of his MLB career . Up until his move to the Boston Red Sox , Crawford was considered the face of the Tampa Bay Rays because of his consistently outstanding performance.

Career

Crawford was elected by the Devil Rays in the 1999 second round of the MLB Draft . He then played for several years in the minor league teams of the Devil Rays. In the 2002 season, he was named Rookie of the Year in the International League after having performed outstandingly for the AAA team of the Devil Rays, the Durham Bulls.

Major League

2002-2005

Crawford made his Major League debut at the age of 20. He played 63 games in the 2002 season, in which he was able to convince with a good batting average of .259 and 9 stolen bases . He then succeeded in permanently ousting the long-time star in the Devil Rays' left field, Preston Marcel Ferguson .

In the following season Crawford played almost every game and convinced with an AVG of .281 with 54 RBI . He won the league's most steal statistic at 55. 2006

In the game against the Boston Red Sox on July 5, Crawford became the eighth player in MLB history due to his 200th stolen base, to reach this number before his 25th birthday.
