The Hillerich & Bradsby Company is an American sporting goods company from Louisville that specializes in the manufacture of baseball equipment. The company manufactures, among other things, the "Louisville Slugger" bat , which is used widely in the US professional league Major League Baseball and worldwide.

history

In 1905,
Honus Wagner was the first baseball player to be sponsored by Hillerich.

In 1855 JF Hillerich opened a carpenter's workshop in Louisville , where his son Bud worked as an apprentice in 1884. Legend has it that Pete Browning , the star player of the local baseball team Louisville Eclipse , broke his bat. Bud offered to make a new bat, and Browning had a run after that. The other Eclipse players wanted a Hillerich bat too, and although JF Hillerich was more interested in building banisters or parquet floors, he allowed his son to make baseball bats. In 1894 the “Louisville Slugger” was patented, which is still the reference play device today.

In the early 20th century, Bud Hillerich began sponsoring famous MLB players. Honus Wagner was the first star to sign an exclusive contract that increased both Hillerich's and Wagner's market value. In 1916 Franks Bradsby joined the company, with which today's Hillerich & Bradsby was born. After Wagner, they successfully recruited stars such as Babe Ruth , Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig .

To date, approximately 100 million Louisville Sluggers have been sold, and approximately 60% of all MLB players use this club.

Products

The "largest baseball bat in the world" is in the in-house Hillerich & Bradsby Museum.

The flagship of Hillerich & Bradsby are the famous "Louisville Slugger" baseball bats, which are used worldwide and at the highest level (MLB). As a homage, there is an oversized bat in the in-house museum, which is advertised as the “largest baseball bat in the world”. In addition to the impact device, Hillerich & Bradsby also produces baseball gloves ( TPX series) and clothing. Ice hockey and golf clubs can also be found in the range.

Silver Slugger Award

Hillerich & Bradsby has sponsored the Silver Slugger Award since 1980, with which the MLB annually crowns the 18 strongest offensive baseball players.
