Jacob "Jake" Joseph Arrieta (born March 6, 1986 in Farmington , Missouri ) is an American baseball player . The right-handed pitcher is currently active with the Philadelphia Phillies .

Professional career

Arrieta was signed as an amateur by the Baltimore Orioles in 2007 in the 5th round of the MLB Draft . He made his debut as a starter in Major League Baseball on June 10, 2010 in a 4-3 win against the New York Yankees , where he could book his first win . Arrieta played in Baltimore for four years and was used in 69 games at that time, 63 of them as a starter. He left Baltimore with an ERA of 5.46 and a win-loss ratio of 20:25 (44.4%).

On July 2, 2013 Arrieta was traded with Pedro Strop to the Chicago Cubs , in return Steve Clevenger and Scott Feldman joined the Orioles.

Arrieta's performance data improved steadily and significantly with the Cubs. In the 2014 season he achieved an above-average ERA of 2.53, in the following year even an outstanding ERA of 1.77, which ultimately earned him the Cy Young Award of the National League . He also managed his first no-hitter in the game against the LA Dodgers on August 30, 2015 . At the beginning of the 2016 season he was able to repeat this success. On July 5, 2016, Arrieta was nominated for the National League squad for the 2016 MLB All-Star Game .

After the 2017 season , he became a free agent . On March 11, 2018, he signed a $ 75 million 3-year deal with the Philadelphia Phillies .
