Jacob Anthony deGrom (* 19th June 1988 in DeLand , Florida ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball . The right-handed pitcher , who hits with his left, is active in the New York Mets in the National League .
Career
Jacob deGrom was from the Mets in the ninth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft on 272ster office drafted and made his debut in the MLB on May 15, 2014 in the city Starter duel against the Yankees . Despite allowing only one run in seven innings he pitched , he was treated with a loss as the Mets lost the game 1-0.
After deGrom had a win rate of 60% in his debut 2014 season with the Mets at 22 starts in the regular season , he was named NL Rookie of the Year in 2014 . In 2015 he reached the play-offs with his team and was used there four times. In the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers , he was allowed to start twice and was able to book a win in both games . DeGrom was equally successful in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs . The Mets qualified for the 2015 World Series and deGrom played there in Game 2. In 5 innings he allowed four runs against the Kansas City Royals . The Mets lost the series 1: 4.
In the 2016 season too , deGrom was an integral part of the Mets' starting rotation. On July 17, 2016, he played his first full game, only allowing one hit and one striker to walk on base during this shutout .
In 2018 and 2019 he won the Cy Young Award for the best pitcher in the National League, with the best ERA (1.70) in 2018 and the most strikeouts (255) in the NL in 2019.
