Jacob Edward "Jake" Peavy (born May 31, 1981 in Mobile , Alabama ) is a retired American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) on the position of pitcher .

Career

Peavy was directly from high school by the Padres drafted and spent several years in the minor league teams the Padres until it into on 21 June 2002 Major League team was appointed by San Diego, where a day later his first Major League game denied against the New York Yankees . Peavy achieved his breakthrough in the 2004 season when he was the top runner in the MLB with an ERA (Earned Run Average) of 2.27 .

In the 2005 season he was appointed to the All Star Team of the National League and came into the post season with San Diego . Peavy broke a rib while celebrating the title of the Western Division and played in the first playoff game against the St. Louis Cardinals in great pain far below his possibilities.

In the 2005 season, Peavy had 216 strikeouts , which was the best in the National League and was only surpassed by Johan Santana with 238 in the league .

Despite his young age, Peavy was considered one of the best pitchers in the Major Leagues . As his great role model, Peavy gave the veteran and teammate Trevor Hoffman .

In April 2012, Peavy was named AL Pitcher of the Month. He pitched an ERA of 1.67 and managed 33 strikeouts in 5 appearances. On July 8, 2012, Peavy replaced CJ Wilson as the pitcher at the 2012 MLB All-Star Game . Peavy was awarded the Gold Glove Award as a pitcher of the American League along with Jeremy Hellickson of the Tampa Bay Rays . It was the first Gold Glove Award in his career. On October 30, Peavy signed another two-year deal with the White Sox for $ 29 million. Thus, the White Sox secured its services until at least 2014.

As of July 30, 2013, he was under contract with the Boston Red Sox. He made his debut for Boston on August 3, 2013 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

On July 26, 2014, he was traded by the Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants. He made his debut for San Francisco on July 27, 2014 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
