biography

Torii Hunter was selected as a first round draft pick (20th position) by the Minnesota Twins in 1993 after graduating from high school. He made his first appearance for the Twins on August 22, 1997. His first full season he completed in 1999. He finished it after 135 games with only one error at 293 chances in the outfield. In April 2000, Hunter was temporarily demoted to minor league baseball . Since he developed into a leading player there, he was brought back to the Twins team at the end of July 2000. At the end of the season he was named Best Defensive Outfielder and Most Exciting Player of the Pacific Coast League .

In 2001 Hunter developed into one of the best players in the Twins' team and led them to a positive win-loss ratio for the first time since 1992. Hunter was named the American League's Best Defensive Outfielder and received his first Gold Glove Award . After convincing performances in the 2002 season, Hunter was voted into the All-Star Game . There was the first starter of the Twins after Kirby Puckett in 1995. The highlight of this game was a spectacularly caught ball in the first inning, with which he prevented a home run by Barry Bonds .

In the 2005 season, Hunter was long incapacitated by a fracture of his ankle and torn ligament, so he missed part of the season. Nevertheless, he was awarded the fifth Gold Glove Award in a row. After the end of the 2006 season, which the Twins finished with the fourth division title of the last five years, a scandal broke out: Hunter and team manager Terry Ryan delivered the Kansas City Royals , who helped the Twins to the division title with a win against the Detroit Tigers had previously promised champagne. Since this is forbidden according to MLB rules, the champagne that had already arrived in Kansas had to be reclaimed immediately.

Between 2002 and 2013, Torii Hunter was nominated a total of five times for the MLB All-Star Game . From 2001 to 2009 he was awarded the Gold Glove Award and twice the Silver Slugger Award (2009, 2013). He was also awarded the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award in 2007 and the Branch Rickey Award in 2009 .

Torii Hunter is married and has three children.
