Brian Patrick Wilson (* 16th March 1982 in Winchester , Massachusetts ) is an American baseball player in Major League . He is currently a free agent . He previously played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and was Closer of the San Francisco Giants until 2012 . His trademark is his beard, which he has been wearing since the 2010 playoffs.
Career
Wilson was elected in the 24th round of the 2003 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants and had to undergo Tommy John Surgery that same year . He made his major league debut on April 23, 2006 as Closer. He was also scheduled for this position in Spring Training 2007. However, due to an ERA of 7.71, the Giants sent him back to the Minor Leagues . He only returned to the MLB in August and was immediately used again as a closer. In the 2008 season he was first elected to the All-Star Team of the National League . He received this honor again in 2010. With 48 saves in the 2010 regular season , he led the National League. In the postseason he secured the victory of the Giants in the National League West with a save in the last game of the regular season against the San Diego Padres . A save in Game 6 of the Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies brought the Giants back into the World Series for the first time since 2002 .
