NLDS 2010 World Series 2010

The 2010 National League Championship Series (NLCS) took place between October 16 and 23, 2010 and was the second round of the 2010 Major League Baseball postseason . In it, the winners of the National League Division Series 2010 , Philadelphia Phillies (winners of the Eastern Division) and San Francisco Giants (winners of the Western Division) competed against each other to determine the representative of the National League in the 2010 World Series . The winners were the San Francisco Giants with 4 - 2 wins. The most valuable player was Cody Ross (Giants).

Mode and participants

It's a best-of-seven series that the Phillies have Homefield Advantage, having won more games than the Giants in the regular season. Games 1 and 2 were therefore played at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia . Games 3, 4 and 5 then took place at AT&T Park in San Francisco . The last game in 2010 was played again in Citizens Bank Park, game 7 was canceled due to the victory of the Giants.

The Phillies and Giants have never met in the postseason. For the Phillies it was the ninth participation in an NLCS; the fifth for the Giants. The Phillies last won the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2009 and were therefore reigning champions of the National League.

The Phillies took their lead back with a run from Shane Victorino in the second half of that inning. A single from Roy Oswalt in the seventh inning ended the game for Phillies pitcher Jonathan Sanchez, who was replaced by Ramón Ramírez. A subsequent Sacrifice Bunt by Victorino and a single by Placido Polanco brought Oswalt home. Ramirez was replaced by Jeremey Affeldt, who scored a strikeout and left Jayson Werth on first base through an intentional walk to load the bases. The Giants exchanged Ramírez for Santiago Casilla, who, however, allowed a double from Jimmy Rollins, through which the Phillies were able to book three more runs. Roy Oswalt no longer allowed the Giants to run in the eighth inning. His nine strikeouts were a new postseason personal best. In the ninth inning, Ryan Madson allowed a walk and a single, but the Giants couldn't make a profit from this.

Game 5 was a repetition of the pitcher duel from Game 1 with Roy Halladay for the Phillies and Tim Lincecum for the Giants. Halladay let the Giants run in the first inning, but the Phillies struck back with three runs in the third inning. Raúl Ibáñez hit a single and Carlos Ruiz got on base with a hit by pitch . A Bunt from Halladay brought Ibáñez to third and Ruiz to second base. An error from Aubrey Huff brought Shane Victorino to second base and Ibáñez and Ruiz home. A single by Plácido Polanco made for the third run by Victorino. The Giants came back in the fourth inning with a run from Pat Burrell to 2-3, but could not score against any more runs. Instead, the Phillies got their fourth run in the ninth inning with a home run by Jayson Werth.

It was the 17th time since 1985 that it was 3-2 in the NLCS. In the previous 16 series, the leading team after five games has won the series in eleven cases.

Game 6

Saturday, October 23, 2010 - 3:30 PM EDT, Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

team 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 R. H E.
San Francisco 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 1 0 3 13 0

WP : Javier Lopez (1-0)   LP : Ryan Madson (0-1)   SV : Brian Wilson (3)

HRs :   SF - Juan Uribe (1)

The game started with a poor performance from Jonathan Sánchez , starting pitcher of the Giants. Already in the first inning he allowed a walk that brought Plácido Polanco to first base and after a wild pitch and a double from Chase Utley home. A sacrifice fly from Jayson Werth made the second run of the game through Utley. The Giants equalized in the third inning against Roy Oswalt . Jonathan Sánchez hit a single and came to second base after a fly ball from Andrés Torres . He reached third base after a bunt from Freddy Sanchez. A single from Aubrey Huff brought the Giants' first run. It is true that the Phillies Torres were able to eject at the homeplate; but had to accept a run from Huff due to an error from Polanco.

It remained in the tie until the eighth inning, when Juan Uribe took the lead for the Giants with a home run. In the second half, the Giants Tim Lincecum , starting pitcher in Games 1 and 5, changed. Lincecum reached a strikeout, but then left two runners on base and was replaced by Brian Wilson . Wilson managed two outs in the eighth and three in the ninth inning, securing the victory of the Giants, who moved into the World Series for the first time since 2002 .
