The Savannah Civic Center is a complex of four main halls in Savannah , Georgia .
History and use
The assembly of the buildings was built in 1974 at a cost of eight million US dollars . The owner and operator is the city council of Savannah in the historic city area of Savannah. Exhibitions, concerts, auctions, theater performances, ballet performances, as well as conferences and comedy performances are held in the center. The building complex consists of four main halls: Civic Center Grand Ballroom (400 seats), East and West Promenades (400 seats), Johnny Mercer Theater (2,524 seats) and Martin Luther King, Jr. Arena (King Arena) (9,600 seats) . The largest hall was the home of the Savannah Spirits in basketball from 1986 to 1988 . The Savannah Rug Ratz , an indoor soccer team , lived here from 1997 to 1998. The team from the same discipline, the Savannah Steam , has been at home here since 2016 . In 1987 the hall was a venue for the Big South Conference 1986/87.
In addition to sporting events, Aerosmith , Alice Cooper , Bob Dylan , Bon Jovi , Bonnie Raitt , Brad Paisley , Elton John , Elvis Presley , Eric Clapton , Guns N 'Roses , Jonas Brothers , Kiss , Lynyrd Skynyrd , Metallica , Prince performed in the multi-purpose hall , REO Speedwagon , Taylor Swift , The Beach Boys , Van Halen , Vince Gill and ZZ Top .
