The Warrior's Code is the fifth studio album by the Dropkick Murphys . It was released in June 2005 and is also the band's best-selling album. It was produced by Hellcat Records.

background

Your Spirit's Alive wrote the band for Greg "Chickenman" Riley , a friend of the band who was killed in a 2004 motorcycle accident. The Warrior's Code is about boxing legend Micky Ward . The Green Fields of France is the cover version of a song by Eric Bogle . The text for I'm Shipping Up to Boston was written by Woody Guthrie , and tells the story of a sailor who is looking for a wooden leg in Boston. Last Letter Home handles the correspondence between the US Sgt. Andrew Farrar and his family shortly before his death in the First Iraq War. Tessie is a new recording of a Boston Red Sox rally song and was dedicated to the Boston Red Sox when they won the World Series again in 2004 after 86 years . It is included as a bonus track on this album, as it had already appeared on another album by the band. A second bonus track called Hatebomb can be found on the Japanese release. The band made music videos for Sunshine Highway , The Warrior's Code, and two videos for I'm Shipping Up to Boston . One was used as a promotion for the film The Departed and included scenes from the film. The video for the song Tessie was shot in 2004.

Trivia

In the song Wicked Sensitive Crew , the band sings that they are not ashamed of having cried when Mickey died in Rocky II . In reality, Mickey died of a heart attack after meeting clubber Lang in Rocky III . In the booklet, the band confesses this mistake, but emphasizes that the lyrics would not have rhymed otherwise.

The band apologized for this mistake on their album by writing, "Mickey actually died in Rocky 3 but, hey, sue us, two rhymed better." ( Eng .: "Mickey died in Rocky 3, but, hey, sue us, two rhymes better.")
