Genevieve Nnaji (born May 3, 1979 in Mbaise , Imo ) is one of the most successful, most popular and highest paid Nigerian actresses .

biography

Genevieve Nnaji grew up in Lagos , the commercial capital of Nigeria, as the fourth of eight children. Her father worked as an engineer, her mother as a teacher. She attended the Methodist Girls College, Yaba in Lagos, after which she studied at the University of Lagos . During her college years, she began applying for acting jobs at Nollywood .

Career

Nnaji began her acting career as a child at the age of eight in the successful Nigerian television series "Ripples". She has appeared in numerous Nigerian TV commercials (Pronto Beverage, Omo Detergent, etc.). In 2004 she signed a lucrative advertising contract and became the face of Lux , a world-famous soap.

In 1998, at the age of 19, she starred in her first major film "Most Wanted". After that, Nnaji played in other smaller roles in the films of the Nigerian Nollywood film industry. In her subsequent films, in which Nnaji played the leading role ("Last Party", "Mark of the Beast" and "Ijele"), she established herself as a film star within Nollywood. Her name became well known in Nigeria and the image she exuded was admired by numerous young Nigerian women.

In 2002, Nnaji appeared in the movie "Sharon Stone". This film was extremely successful and became known outside the Nigerian borders on the African continent as well as in some European countries. Nnaji has appeared in over 80 Nollywood films.

Nnaji's talent and commitment have earned her numerous film awards, nominations and awards. In 2001 she was named Best Actress at the City People Award . In 2005 she won the prestigious African Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Actress .

In 2018, Netflix bought her film Lionheart, in which she played the lead and directed, making it the first Netflix original film from the African continent.
