African Movie Academy Award

The African Movie Academy Awards , also known as the AMAA Awards, are awards presented annually for African films. They are awarded to honor and promote excellence in the African film industry and to unite the African continent through art and culture. Prominent African politicians, journalists, media professionals and actors from Africa and Hollywood take part in the award presentation.

The first AMAA awards ceremony was held on March 30, 2005 in Yenagoa , Bayelsa , Nigeria . All other AMAA Awards also took place in Bayelsa, Nigeria. In 2008, however, the awards had to be relocated to Abuja , Nigeria's capital, for security reasons .
