Nadine Labaki ( Arabic نادين لبكي, DMG Nādīn Labakī , born February 18, 1974 in Baabda , Lebanon ) is a Lebanese actress and director.

Life

Nadine Labaki has made many films in the Arab music video industry in which she has had numerous artists appear.

In 2007 she was the director, co-author and actress of the film Caramel , which received international attention and was shown in theaters in several European countries.

In 2018, for Cafarnaúm (reference title: Capernaum - City of Hope / Capharnaüm ) , Labaki received an invitation to the competition at the 71st Cannes Film Festival , where she was honored with the Jury Prize. In the same year she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year. Cafarnaúm was one of the five nominated works for the best foreign language film at the 2019 Academy Awards . The Academy Award in this category ultimately went to the family drama Roma , directed by Alfonso Cuarón .

In 2019 she was selected as the jury president of the Un Certain Regard section at the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival .
