Icky Thump is the sixth music album by The White Stripes . It was released on June 15, 2007.

Emergence

Icky Thump is the White Stripes ' sixth album after Jack White had previously released an album with his other band, The Raconteurs .

In contrast to the previous album “ Get Behind Me Satan ”, on Icky Thump the electric guitar is again the determining instrument, not the piano . The band returned to their roots, blues , indie and garage rock .

Most of the songs are not very catchy and are "torn apart" in the style typical of the White Stripes by out of tune and distorted guitar riffs and solos. The album is generally heavier and more rocking than its predecessor. It was recorded on analog tapes within three weeks; this is also the longest time it took Jack and Meg White to record a studio album.

reception

The White Stripes won their third Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album for the album and have since shared the record with the British band Radiohead , who also won a total of three of these awards. For the single Icky Thump they won another award with the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal .

The Rolling Stone listed the album at number 17 of its list of albums of 2007, the editor of the music magazine Visions on their list at No. 28th

The album received a metascore of 80% (based on 39 reviews), which makes it as good as its predecessor Get Behind Me Satan , but slightly worse than their predecessors White Blood Cells and Elephant .

Charts

The album entered the top 10 album charts of at least 15 nations. In the UK, it was even listed at number 1 for a week.
