Elephant is the fourth studio album by the American band The White Stripes . It was released in 2003 on V2 Records in the US and XL Recordings in Europe.

The album was recorded at Toereg Studios in London within two weeks . According to an interview, the band only invested £ 5,000 in the album. Jack White said when asked whether the album could not have been produced much more elaborately:
Sure we could have done that, but the way we work as a band forces us to work very quickly and cheaply, without expensive equipment - I hate computers and ProTools, it destroys creativity.

The album received average reviews.
Vicky Butscher awarded four out of five points on laut.de and described the album as " somehow different " and " very lovable in its very own way ".
Allmusic awarded five out of five stars and wrote that the album was a " phenomenal success ", a phenomenal success.
Almost Cool wrote that the album was indeed not a " terrible phenomenon " ( horrible release ), but one should one "the rumors, is the album 's all-time classic " do not believe and awarded 6 of 10 possible points.
Awards
The band received a Grammy for Best Alternative Album in 2004 and continued to be nominated for Album of the Year. The single Seven Nation Army won in the category Best Rock Song and was also nominated for "Best Performance by a Duo or Group with Singing - Rock".
