Harry Gero Bergeest (born March 7, 1944 in Hamburg ) is a German university professor for education for the physically handicapped . Most recently he taught at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg .

Life

Bergeest attended middle school and completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic; at the evening grammar school he obtained his university entrance qualification and then studied pedagogy and psychology, all in Hamburg. He then worked for several years at the Botleys Park Hospital School (home and special school for physically and mentally handicapped people) in Chertsey ( England ). In 1980 he began his academic career as an academic advisor at the Institute for Special Education at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . During this time additional training in Montessori pedagogy and body-centered therapies. From 1993 he held the chair for physically handicapped education at the Institute for Rehabilitation Education at the University of Halle-Wittenberg. He has been living in the south of England since 2005.

  • Inventory of the theories in education for the physically handicapped in German-speaking countries

  • Bibliography on pedagogy for the disabled.
