It's My Life is a 1984 song by the band Talk Talk , written by Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene , and appeared on the album of the same name .
history
It's My Life was the first song that Hollis and Friese-Greene wrote together after the latter joined the band as an unofficial member in 1984. It was released as a single on EMI in January 1984 , and appeared a month later on Talk Talks second album, also titled It's My Life .
The song (as well as the whole album) can be assigned to the New Wave subgenre Synth-Pop , which is typical of the 1980s . It's My Life also shows the band's musical development away from the straightforward, simple pop of their debut album towards more experimental sounds and song structures.
In Great Britain, the single narrowly missed entry into the top 40 when it was first released, while it was somewhat more successful in the Billboard Hot 100 (number 31), in the German charts (number 33) and other European countries. In 1990 It's My Life was released again as a single parallel to the compilation Natural History: The Very Best of Talk Talk . This time she reached # 13 in the UK Top 40 .
The song plays in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories for Playstation Portable and Playstation 2 on the game's own radio station Flash FM.
In 2003 the band No Doubt covered the song and was also successful.
Music video
In the (second) music video , recordings from the London Zoo alternate with nature recordings of animals in the wild. While Mark Hollis dances to the music in their natural surroundings with the wild animals shown in the background and “sings” lip-synchronously, he stands there motionless in the zoo and does not move his lips, which are painted over with animated lines. The recordings were made with a video projector .
