The Party's Over is the debut album by the English band Talk Talk . It was released in July 1982. Musically it is often assigned to synth pop , new wave or sophisti pop .
Emergence
The album was produced by Colin Thurston , who had previously worked as a sound engineer for David Bowie but also produced Duran Duran's first two albums. Mike Robinson mixed the album. The album design was done by Bill Smith, who used a painting by James Marsh for the cover .
Publication and reception
The Party's Over was released in July 1982 via EMI Records after Mirror Man in February 1982 and Talk Talk in April 1982 had already appeared as singles in advance.
In Great Britain , the third single Today became a top 20 hit. The remixed version of the single Talk Talk reached number one in South Africa in 1983 and number 23 in the UK.
In Great Britain the record reached number 21 on the charts and silver status. In the United States , the album reached number 132 on the Billboard Top 200. In New Zealand , the album was a hit and reached number eight, also due to the success of the single Today , which reached number ten there in 1983. In Sweden the album came in at number 47.
