Life's What You Make It is a song by the British band Talk Talk . It was released in Germany in 1985 and in Great Britain in 1986 from the studio album The Color of Spring . The song was charted in many Western countries, mostly it reached top 20 positions in European countries.
Emergence
At the end of the studio recording for the album The Color of Spring , the band's management expressed concern over the lack of an obvious single. Songwriters Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene accepted the criticism as a challenge. Friese-Greene said, “I had a drum pattern inspired by Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill , and Mark played the Green Onions organ in an exaggerated way .” Then the piece was embellished with David Rhodes' guitar hooks. The song was produced by Friese-Greene.

The piece arrived in Germany ranked 24th in the charts, in Switzerland 17th place in the UK managed the song at number 16 in the Billboard 200 in the US came Life's What You Make It ranked 90th in the Netherlands and New Zealand reached the Song with 11th place his best positions.
Remix
In 1990 the piece was re-released as a remix. This version reached number 23 in the UK and Ireland .

Cover versions
Cover versions exist, among others, of Duncan Sheik in a duet with Rachael Yamagata , of The Gathering , The Divine Comedy , Weezer , Placebo and many others. In the film Gegen die Wand by Fatih Akin , a cover version is played by the German band Zinoba.
The title is also played on the car radio in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City from 2002.
