Jorja Alice Smith

Jorja Alice Smith (born June 11, 1997 in Walsall , West Midlands , England ) is a British singer. Their musical style has been compared to that of Adele , Alicia Keys and FKA twigs .

biography

Jorja Alice Smith , whose father was a member of a neo-soul band, grew up in a musical environment. First she learned to play the piano, then also the oboe. During her school days she received classical singing lessons. She participated in a music collective and started releasing music online .

In January 2016 her first publication Blue Lights appeared on the SoundCloud platform ; at the time Smith was 18 years old. It was followed by A Prince with Maverick Saber and Where Did I Go? , which the rapper Drake called his favorite song at the time in an interview; that same year, Smith accompanied Drake on his UK tour. In November 2016 the EP Project 11 was released with four songs. Blue Lights was nominated at the MOBO Awards 2016 in the "Best Song" category.

In 2017, Smith was hailed as a rising star in the UK press. She was one of 15 artists shortlisted Sound of 2017 the BBC and came finally to fourth place. In March 2017, Smith appeared on two tracks on Drake's More Life album . Her single Beautiful Little Fools , a tribute to The Great Gatsby , was released that same month . At the MOBO Awards 2017, Smith was nominated in the "Best Female" category.

In January 2018 she won the Critics' Choice Award at the BRIT Awards . The following month she performed with Rag 'n' Bone Man at the awards ceremony. Her debut album Lost & Found was released in June 2018 . In February 2019 she won the Brit Award for Best British Solo Artist.
