Dan Hartman
Dan Hartman (* 8. December 1950 in Harrisburg , † 22. March 1994 in Westport , actually Daniel Earl Hartman ) was a rock - multi-instrumentalist worked, the known with a number of bands and musicians. The instruments he has mastered include guitar , bass , drums and keyboard , and he was also active as a singer .
biography
Hartman's music career began in the late 1960s when he became a member of Johnny Winters Band. In the first half of the 1970s he then continued his work for Winter and also joined the band of his brother Edgar , for whom he also wrote the hit Free Ride . After working as a studio musician for Todd Rundgren and Rick Derringer in 1975 , he released his little-noticed solo debut Images the following year , followed shortly by Who Is Dan Hartman? . The title of this LP says a lot about the reactions of the music consumers.
But in 1978, after Hartman had produced albums by 38 Special and Foghat , success began in the form of the disco album Instant Replay . But the successor Relight My Fire with the song of the same name left a lot to be desired in terms of success, so that Hartman increasingly worked as a producer again in the 1980s, including for James Brown and the Average White Band .
In 1984 and 1985 he had two more hits in the form of I Can Dream About You and We Are the Young . Although Hartman continued to release albums regularly until 1989, commercial success failed to materialize and he began to work primarily as a studio musician for other artists.
When Hartman died on March 22, 1994 of an AIDS- related brain tumor , he was working on a new album.
