Edgar Winter (born December 28, 1946 in Beaumont , Texas , USA ) is an American musician.

Life

Edgar Winter, son of a plantation owner, was born with albinism . He primarily plays the saxophone, but often also piano, keyboards and drums as well as various electronic aids such as expanders or drum machines. Musically he is at home in blues and blues-rock, but due to his “musical excursions”, such as jazz-rock, he can be described as an all-rounder. Winter is the younger brother of the US blues guitarist and singer Johnny Winter , with whom he has performed repeatedly.

In 1970, Edgar Winter's first album, Entrance , was released, which was well received by critics and audiences. First he worked with the backing band White Trash , later with the Edgar Winter Group , with whom he had the hit Frankenstein (1973 number 1 in the US charts). In the German singles charts, the title reached number 39.

The album They Only Come Out At Night reached number 3 in 1973 and stayed in the album charts for a total of 80 weeks. It was awarded gold in 1973 and double platinum in 1986.

The two brothers Edgar and Johnny played together again and again. Edgar wrote music for a number of films as well as for television and advertising. He has also worked with many well-known colleagues for both studio albums and live tours, including Todd Rundgren , Meat Loaf , Bruce Willis , Ringo Starr , Eddie Van Halen , Usher , Willie Nelson , Jackson Browne , Leon Russell , Rick Derringer , Joe Satriani , Steve Lukather , Slash or Tina Turner . Edgar Winter is a member of Scientology . He lives in Beverly Hills .
