Blues Project

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blues Project was an American blues band , which in 1964 by Danny Kalb was founded.

In addition to Kalb (guitar), the other members were Al Kooper (keyboards), Steve Katz (guitar), Andy Kulberg (bass), Roy Blumenfeld (drums) and Tom Flanders (vocals).

The group skillfully combined blues , folk and jazz . While a blues revival had already started in Great Britain in the 1950s - driven by musicians like Alexis Korner and Cyril Davies - America was not yet ready for commercial success.

Flanders left the group in 1965, and Kooper and Katz left in 1967 to found Blood, Sweat & Tears . Kalb disappeared under mysterious circumstances and was wanted by his friends via newspaper advertisement.

In 1968 the Blues Project gave its farewell concert with the line-up of Andy Kulberg (flute), John Gregory (bass, vocals), Richard Greene (violin), Donald Kretmar (saxophone), Roy Blumenfeld (drums). Then the group appeared under the name Seatrain .

From 1971 there were reunion appearances and new recordings of the Blues Project.
