Richard Greene (violinist)

Richard Greene (born November 9, 1942 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American violinist who has played in several folk and rock bands . His most successful period was the 1960s, when he was a member of Seatrain , among other things .

Greene learned to play the classical violin as a child. During his school days he discovered his love for folk music. In 1960 he began studying at Berkeley University . At that time he played with various bands, such as the Coast Mountain Ramblers and the Dry City Scat Band .

Even during his first years as a real estate agent, he continued to make music. B. with the Pina Valley Boys . In 1964 he met Bill Keith of the Blue Grass Boys in New York , of which he became a member two years later. He can be heard on the album Blue Grass Time .

After a year with the Blue Grass Boys, Greene joined the Jim Kweskin Jug Band , which also included Bill Keith, Geoff and Maria Muldaur . With them he recorded the album Garden Of Joy in 1968 .

He was drawn back to California, where he joined the Blues Project , which soon became part of Seatrain . After three years at Seatrain , he formed the Blue Velvet Band with Bill Keith , which only produced one album, Sweet Moments .

Richard Greene then played on numerous studio recordings for well-known colleagues, including James Taylor , Emmylou Harris , Rod Stewart and Taj Mahal , to name a few. He also recorded some solo albums.
