Caribbean Queen appeared on the album Suddenly on July 12, 1984 and quickly became a number-one hit in the United States , Canada and New Zealand from the Caribbean . The title was released as the first single from the album. On the B-side is an instrumental version of the song.
The song also appeared on the African continent as the African Queen and in Europe under the title European Queen . In Great Britain the song was released both under the original title and as European Queen . However, he was more successful as Caribbean Queen .
With the piece Ocean won the 1985 Grammy in the category "Best R&B Performance by a Singer" (Best Male R&B Vocal Performance). Ocean shot the video for the song in 1985. In the same year he sang the song at the Live Aid concert at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia .
