Rock Your Baby is a pop song by George McCrae from 1974. With more than eleven million copies sold, the disco title is one of the most successful singles of all time.

Emergence

The title was written by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch, who planned the piece for their own group KC and the Sunshine Band . Originally, Rock Your Baby was supposed to be an instrumental number , but then Casey and Finch decided to write lyrics. When recording the song, however, Casey found that he could not achieve the required high pitches. When looking for a suitable replacement, the first choice fell on George McCrae's wife Gwen. However, this was delayed for the agreed recording date, so that he finally contributed the vocals himself. It was his falsetto voice that decisively shaped the title.

success

Rock Your Baby was one of the first big hits in the still young era of disco music . In July 1974, the title rose to number one on the US , British and German charts. While the top position in the USA and Great Britain could be maintained for three and two weeks respectively, the single stayed in Germany for ten weeks in a row and became the best-selling title of the year. In 1987 Rock Your Baby managed to return to the German and British charts in a remix version by Paul Hardcastle and stayed there for several weeks.

Rock Your Baby was George McCrae's biggest hit. With more than eleven million copies sold worldwide, the title is also one of the most successful singles of all time. Casey and Finch wrote and produced half a dozen other chart hits for George McCrae.

Cover

The song was later covered several times, including by KC and the Sunshine Band, KWS , the Italian singer Spagna and the Ö La Palöma Boys .
