The Ö La Palöma Boys were a duo of two German amateur singers. In the summer of 1999, after a media hype totally started by Stefan Raab in his TV show , they reached number 2 in the German charts with the trash single Ö La Palöma .

Career

The taxi driver and pool attendant Claus Holtfoth from Hanover and the architect Ulrich (Ulli) Ahlers from Freiburg made a joke of a video in which they played a fictional aunt Jutta (behind whom a mutual acquaintance from Saxony was hiding) with the song Paloma Blanca by George Baker Selection in ostensibly Saxon dialect congratulated them on their birthday. The video was originally broadcast in the program Alles Gute on MDR , where Stefan Raab became aware of it and presented it as an alleged real satire in the first edition of his program TV total (March 8, 1999). The duo was then marketed under the name Ö La Palöma Boys and recorded an album. Only shortly before the studio recordings began, Claus Holtfoth admitted that he was not actually a Saxon.

The single Ö La Palöma Blanca was sold more than 500,000 times and reached platinum status in Germany . After this success, the follow-up singles Once You Drink Tequila (adaptation of the title Tequila by The Champs ) and Ö Tannenbaum (adaptation of O Tannenbaum ) for Christmas 1999 , with which the Ö La Palöma Boys did not achieve the success of their debut by far, were released. Three more songs appeared on Stefan Raab's TV Total album in 2000 .
