Life

Destiny's Child (1993-1999)

In 1993 LeToya Luckett became a member of the Girls Tyme dance group. The group made numerous small appearances in shopping malls in and around Houston / Texas and participated in talent competitions such as B. participated in Star Search . When a record deal with Columbia Records was imminent, the name of the group was changed to Destiny's Child , which from then on consisted of Beyoncé Knowles , Kelly Rowland , LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson .

In 1998 the band immediately achieved worldwide success with their debut single No No No (featuring Wyclef Jean ). Other singles followed, such as Bug a Boo and Bills, Bills, Bills . In parallel, Destiny's Child released two albums: Destiny's Child (1998) and The Writing's on the Wall (1999). At the climax, Luckett and Roberson left the band due to various disagreements with manager Matthew Knowles.

With the first release after the breakup, the # 1 hit Say My Name , released in 2000 , which was accompanied by a new line-up of Destiny's Child, the group finally became a pop phenomenon. With Say My Name , the group won two Grammies for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best R&B Song . Since Luckett co-wrote the song, she also received two Grammies retrospectively. The band released the album Survivor in 2001 , the album Destiny Fulfilled in 2004 and finally disbanded in 2005.

Anjel (2001-2003)

Luckett decided to start their own R&B girl group with Roberson. The duo held auditions in the United States and eventually found another member: Naty Quinones from Atlanta . The formation was called Anjel from now on . In order to avoid direct comparisons with Destiny's Child, it was decided to make a quartet out of the trio. Tiffany Beaudoin, a Houston singer, eventually joined as the fourth member.

The band began to work on the debut album in the following years. However, when it came to conflicts with the record company and several postponements in 2003, the release was finally canceled and the breakup of Anjel announced by band speakers.

Solo career (from 2004)

In 2004, Luckett finally decided to try her luck as a solo artist. She signed a record deal with Capitol Records and has since appeared on a number of soundtracks and collaborations with labelmates like Houston ( My Promise ). In early 2005 she released two promo singles, You Got What I Need and All Eyes on Me , which initially only ran on the radio and were only available on vinyl records .
