Jason Quenneville (born February 23, 1982 in Toronto , Canada ) is a Canadian music producer and songwriter , who is best known by his pseudonym Daheala (or DaHeala ). He has worked for artists like The Weeknd , Belly and Massari . He also works frequently with Ben Billions, Danny Boy Styles, Illangelo and Doc McKinney . He received an Oscar nomination as co-songwriter for The Weeknd's song Earned It from the film Fifty Shades of Gray .

Life

Jason Quenneville was born in Toronto, Canada. He moved to Gatineau with his family at the age of two . At thirteen he started DJing in a youth center . There he also worked for the first time with the FL Studio 3 program, the forerunner of Fruity Loops . He taught himself how to produce. His first professional production was in 2005 for the mixtape Death Before Dishonor by rapper Belly. This was followed by the self-titled debut album by Massari in the same year for which he produced twelve of the 14 tracks.

In 2007 he worked with Belly on his The Revolution trilogy. This was followed by work for The Weeknd, Danny Fernandes and Mia Martina . At The Weeknd he developed into a house producer. He produced nine of the twelve Kiss Land songs, six songs for Beauty Behind the Madness and five songs for Starboy . As a songwriter, he was involved in the two hits Often and Earned It . For the latter, he received an Oscar nomination in the “ Best Song ” category at the 2016 Academy Awards, along with other songwriters The Weeknd, Belly and Stephan Moccio . The album, Beauty Behind the Madness , for which he was the executive producer, received a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album and was nominated for a NAACP Image Award , whereby these prizes are only given to the artist himself.
