Karyn White
Karyn Layvonne White (born October 14, 1965 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American R&B singer who was number one in the US singles charts for a week in 1991 with Romantic .
Career
White sang in the church choir as a child and tried her hand at first as a background singer from the mid-1980s. Among other things, she went on tour with her R&B colleague O'Bryan . With the help of Jeff Lorber , she had her first hits in 1986: Facts of Love reached the top 30 of the US pop charts. Between 1986 and 1995 White placed a total of 15 hits in the American R&B charts, four of which reached number one: The Way You Love Me (1988), Superwoman , Love Saw It (1989, with Babyface ) and Romantic (1991).
Her first two solo albums, Karyn White (1988, platinum in the USA) and Ritual of Love (1991, gold), were released by Warner and were heavily influenced by the then popular New Jack Swing .
White was married to producer Terry Lewis from 1991 to 1999 . The two have a daughter. Her marriage to Bobby Gonzales, which she entered into at the end of 2007, broke up again in 2009.
