O'Bryan McCoy Burnette Jr. (born December 5, 1961 in Burgaw , North Carolina ) is an American singer and songwriter .

O'Bryan McCoy Burnette Jr. was born on December 5, 1961 at Pender County Memorial Hospital in Burgaw . His parents are O'Bryan and Glenice Burnette. O'Bryan performed at the age of eighteen with bassist Melvin Lee Davis in the choir of the Second Baptist Church in Santa Ana, California . He was introduced to the producer Ron Kersey there. At the time he was looking for members for a new group called Hamercy . O'Bryan was picked up as the lead singer. The young band broke up after a short time. Burnette Jr. was to work with Don Cornelius from now on . He is known as the producer of the music show Soul Train .

O'Bryan made a contract with the record label Capitol Records on the advice of Cornelius . Over the next four years, 1982 to 1986, the singer released four albums and nine singles, all of which were listed on the R&B charts . The music can be attributed to the R&B and partly to the funk of the 1980s. After a long hiatus , O'Bryan released the album F1RST in 2007 .
