biography

Joseph Foreman was already active as a musician and rapper during his school days. He distributed the tapes he had recorded at home to his classmates.

In 1999 Afroman's first album, My Fro-losophy, was released . A short time later he moved from Palmdale, California to Hattiesburg, Mississippi . In 2000 the second album, Because I Got High, was released . At that time, the rapper was still selling his records almost exclusively at his concerts.

In 2001 , the song Because I Got High found widespread circulation on the Napster online music exchange . Eventually radio DJ Howard Stern became aware of it. He played the song on his show, which in turn led Universal Music to sign Foreman aka Afroman. The music video for Because I Got High was made by director Kevin Smith , who also featured his characters Jay and Silent Bob . He also used the song in the movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back . The song developed into an international hit and rose to number 1 in the charts in several countries, including Germany and Austria.

Afroman is considered a one-hit wonder ; The rapper could no longer build on the immense success of Because I Got High . He continues to publish records, such as Afroholic… The Even Better Times (2004), Drunk 'n' High (2006) and Frobama - Head of State (2009).
