Jay and Silent Bob
Jay and Silent Bob are two fictional characters penned by Kevin Smith . They appear in almost every one of his films. Jay is played by Jason Mewes , Smith himself plays Silent Bob . The two characters come from New Jersey and are drug dealers, with Jay being the over-the-top and Silent Bob the quiet part of the duo.
Characterization of the duo
The two were born in Leonardo, New Jersey . They first met in front of a drugstore when their mothers deposited them there as babies to "go shopping" in the store. Jay's penchant for drugs may be due to his mother's genes, who at the time didn't seem averse to drug use. Jay's first word was " Fuck ".
Jay and Silent Bob often appear in supporting roles in Kevin Smith's films, such as: B. Chasing Amy . In Dogma they play more significant roles for the plot for the first time. The fifth film in the New Jersey film series , Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back , takes a closer look at the characters, for example their origins or their sexuality.
Bob only speaks a few sentences in each of the films and otherwise communicates through his facial expressions and gestures, hence the name "Silent Bob". When Silent Bob says something, some important information for the situation comes to light, such as his story about Amy in Chasing Amy or about the clarification of the filming rights to the film Bluntman & Chronic in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back .

Since Jay and Silent Bob are present as a couple in every film, they act as the connecting link between the films. That is why the credits always contain the next film in which they can be seen. Two examples:
End credits for the film | text | translation |
---|---|---|
Chasing Amy | "Jay and Silent Bob wants to return in Dogma (... promise)." | "Jay and Silent Bob will return in dogma (... promise)." |
Clerks II |
"Jay and Silent Bob might return one day. For now, they're taking it easy. Goodbye, horses. " |
“Jay and Silent Bob may return one day. Now they just let it go. Goodbye, Horses " |
Apparently Kevin Smith is planning a horror film in which the two characters are again involved. According to Smith, it shouldn't be a comedy because he wants to do something different this time.
