Country Grammar is the debut album by the American rapper Nelly . It was released on June 27, 2000 on the Universal Records and Fo 'Reel labels .
Production and samples
Kevin Law and C-Love served as executive producers on the album . Most of the beats were produced by music producer Jason Epperson, who contributed nine instrumentals . City Spud produced four productions while Steve Wills produced one song.
Three songs contain samples from tracks by other artists. Thus contains Ride wit Me elements of the piece I Like It , the R & B group DeBarge and Batter Up is sampling movin 'on up by the rock group Primal scream . Luven Me also contains elements from Don't Stop (Ever Loving Me) and Whatever You Want from R&B groups One Way and Tony! Toni! Toné! .
Cover design
The album cover shows Nelly looking down at the viewer. He wears a vest and is otherwise shirtless. The background is white and the vertical lettering Nelly and +++ Country Grammar are in black at the top left of the picture .
Guest Posts
In addition to Nelly, other artists can be heard on ten tracks on the album. The comedian Cedric the Entertainer is represented on the Intro , Interlude and Outro skits . Nelly's rap group St. Lunatics has two guest appearances on the songs Steal the Show and Wrap Sumden , while rapper Lil Wayne can be heard on For My . The songs Thicky Thick Girl and Batter Up are collaborations with the St. Lunatics rappers Murphy Lee and Ali . With City Spud, another member of the St. Lunatics is represented on Ride wit Me . The Teamsters also have a guest post on the track Never Let 'Em CU Sweat .

Chart successes and singles
Country Grammar entered the German album charts at number 66 on October 9, 2000. It only reached its highest position of 45 on July 30, 2001. Overall, Country Grammer was able to stay in the top 100 for 43 weeks with interruptions. In the USA, the album reached the top position in the charts and stayed in the top 200 for 104 weeks, five weeks of which were at number 1. Also in Switzerland (# 90, 3 weeks) and Great Britain (# 14, 38 weeks) the album hit the charts. In the 2001 German annual charts, the sound carrier was ranked 83rd.
As singles , the songs were Country Grammar (Hot Shit) (DE # 20), EI (DE # 22), Ride Wit Me (DE # 25) and Batter Up decoupled (DE # 79).

Country Grammar sold over ten million copies in the United States and was awarded ten times platinum (diamond) in 2016. It is one of the most commercially successful rap albums in the USA and is Nelly's best-selling album in his home country. In the UK, Country Grammar received a platinum record for over 300,000 copies sold in 2013.
The Grammy Awards 2001 was Country Grammar in the category Best Rap Album nominated, but lost The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem .
