Sam Sparro (born November 8, 1983 in Sydney ; actually Samuel Frankland Falson ) is an Australian musician and singer. In his recordings, which were influenced by the music of the 1970s and 1980s, he combines electronic pop music with soul and funk elements .
Sparro was born in Australia but moved to the United States at a young age and currently lives with his partner in Los Angeles .
In 2007 he was signed to the British record label Island Records with his self-produced songs . With his debut single Black and Gold at the end of March 2008, he made it into the top ten of the British single charts only on the basis of downloads.
Some of Sam Sparro's relatives were and still are musicians: his great-grandmother was a pianist for silent films, her husband a music teacher, guitar maker and composer. Sam's grandfather is a jazz trumpeter and has played with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. His arrangements have been archived as historical recordings by the Australian government. He is now 80 years old and is still playing. The grandmother is a singer, actress and dancer - also still today. Sam's father played guitar in Australia with U2 and David Bowie. Sam's ironic explanation for his ancestors' success: "I think their secret is that they drink a lot of red wine."
