Sofi Tukker is an American dance- pop duo from New York .
Band history
The two members of the band met shortly before finishing their studies at Brown University in Providence . Sophie Hawley-Weld wanted to go to Brazil as a dance teacher, Tucker Halpern had to give up his basketball career and became a DJ. He heard her sing and immediately made a remix that brought them together. They changed their career plans and merged in 2014 using their modified first names as Sofi Tukker . It took two years for their first EP, Soft Animals . Her first song was a setting of a poem by the Brazilian Ricardo de Carvalho Duarte - Hawley-Weld had already lived in Brazil and studied Portuguese. The song Drinkee became an international surprise hit on the streaming platforms. The song garnered over 30 million views worldwide and made it into the charts in Australia and Italy. It was even nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording .
The second single was called Best Friend and was released in late 2017. On the song, the duo worked with the Australians Nervo and the Japanese singer Alisa Ueno. The song got an additional boost through its use in a popular smartphone commercial and in the soccer game FIFA 18. Best Friend made it into the official singles charts and at number 5 on the dance charts in the USA. In April, Sofi Tukker's debut album entitled Treehouse followed . Although they missed the album charts, they reached number 5 in the dance charts again.
