overview
Armada Music was founded in 2003 by Armin van Buuren , Maykel Piron and David Lewis. The name Armada originated from the first two letters of the three first names. It is headquartered in Amsterdam. Today Armada Music has 26 sublabels and over 2,600 musical releases have been made.
Between 2009 and 2012 the label was awarded the title Best Global Dance Label . This prize is awarded annually at the International Dance Music Awards , which takes place as part of the Winter Music Conference in Miami. In addition, in 2009 and 2010, Armada Music artists and producers each won five other awards.
Sub-labels
Co-founder Armin van Buuren produces most of his music on the Armind label . He founded this label in 1999 together with the record label United Recordings and was incorporated into this label when Armada Music was founded. The first track that was produced on Armind in this new group is As the rush comes by Motorcycle . In addition, Armin brought the label Captivating Sounds into the new “label family”. In the same year the labels A State of Trance (matching the radio show of the same name), Club Elite (under the direction of DJ MIKE aka Push) and Bandung (under the direction of DJ Harry Lemon ) were added. A little later, Markus Schulz , who was already under contract with Armada Music, founded his own sub-label called Coldharbour Recordings , which has since released his music. In 2007, Coldharbour Recordings founded the sub-label Coldharbour Recordings Red . In 2008, the Magic Island Records label was added, which was founded by Roger Shah . The Future Sound of Egypt label , which was founded in February 2009 and is directed by Aly & Fila and was a sub-label of Offshore Music , was bought by Armada Music in February 2010 and has been a sub-label of them ever since.
In July 2010 Armada Music merged with Paul van Dyks label Vandit Records . Vandit remains responsible for the A&R management , and Armada Music has since taken over the marketing of the music from Vandit Records and its sub-label Vandit Digital. This joint venture was terminated in 2013, so that Vandit Records became an independent label again.
The Armada Music label now includes 30 other sub-labels. Two of these sub-labels have their own sub-labels. The full list is:
